OK, so by we all know I’m a sucker for a good dark beer. Dark, dark, dark….with a very special place in my liver for Black IPA. Needless to say, I’ve been eyeballing this one for a while as I really like Knee Deep and well, again, I love the Black IPA. So here we go:
Presentation: If you’re a fan of the style, you’ll LOVE the way this looks and smells. It pours very very dark, pretty much black. Nice foamy head on it too that’s a little filmy but really more of a light fluff. The smell is nice, hoppy and that smokey Black IPA kind of odor as opposed to the more citrus/pine that you get with a traditional IPA. More smoke, less dank.
Style: American Black Ale
Brewery: Knee Deep Brewing Company
ABV: 9.5% (wheelhouse!)
Method: 24oz Bomber Glass
Overall taste: Excellent taste, one of the better I’ve had in this style. I’m not sure if they actually roast the hops or what but if you had toasted hops I’d imagine this is what it would taste like. There are the standard IPA notes of citrus and orange but the roasted, smokey IPA is the primary toast. Yum!
Recommended drinking location: Anywhere….no really, anywhere….
Ideal consumption amount: One is very good, two is a nice subtle buzz
